A time for change –

Winter usually represents something of a negative season for me.  For me, the frosty season equates to awkwardly rugging up, staying indoors all day, and observing the world go about its business with an air of slight unhappiness – all this caused by an enduring cold. Yet this winter, I decided to try something a little different, to try and make the most of winter as so many others seem to be able to do. And thus began my adventure at Val Thorens ski resort.

Val Thorens – a young man’s dream

Located in the misty Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps,  Val Thorens claims the title of Europe’s highest ski resort. The resort itself occupies over 600km of skiable terrain, making it the largest linked ski area on the globe.

What a way to begin my snow adventure! Whilst tackling the highest peaks of the Alps seemed a daunting task at first, my adventure in Val Thorens taught me that it was anything but that. Rather than create and exhaustive list of the types of things I did during the winter, I thought I would round it up with a top 4, which I hope will give those that despise winter the courage to try something new and embrace the cold!

  1. Ski, ski, ski – I would be lying to you if I stated that skiing doesn’t occupy the mind of all that travel to Val Thorens. The slopes are seriously to die for, with a range of tracks available from those experiencing skiing for the first time, to those ready to carve up the mountain at high speeds. For a challenge with friends, try out the skiercross run, an obstacle course filled with banked turns, whoops and breaks – first to the end wins! A perfect way to unwind after a hectic mountain adventure!
